Dubai might love a flashy plate, but this blog proves veggie-friendly dining can be just as craveable, crowd-pleasing, and worthy of a spot on the menu
Luxury means something different to everyone. For some, it’s a richly marbled, buttery-soft wagyu steak. For others, it’s having a full vegan and vegetarian menu to choose from. The trouble is, restaurants that only cater to one definition risk losing both types of diners.
In Dubai, dining has evolved into an immersive, multi-sensory experience. As one of the world’s most innovative culinary hubs, the city is constantly turning out gold-infused dishes, Michelin-starred concepts, and top-notch restaurants that would even impress Gordon Ramsay. So, you can only imagine my surprise when, in 2026, I am still being told, ‘Sorry ma’am, I’m afraid we don’t have anything vegetarian on our menu.’
While the plant-based movement is by no means as popular in the UAE as it is in places like the UK, catering to different dietary requirements still matters. Take a group of 10 friends, for example, and imagine one of them is vegan. When it comes to choosing where to eat, chances are they’ll pick a restaurant that has something their plant-based friend can actually enjoy. If you only cater to carnivores, you’re not just missing out on one guest, you’re likely losing the whole table.
Today’s blog marks the final edition of our three-part series exploring how the plant-based movement is taking shape around the world. After our previous deep dive into the growing interest in vegetarianism and veganism in Saudi Arabia, this piece takes a closer look at how the diet is perceived in the UAE, as well as some of the best restaurants in Dubai serving menus that keep veggies, the plant-based curious, and meat eaters equally happy.

Flexitarian is the New Vegan
The UAE has always been quick to embrace the latest trends, and the plant-based movement was no different. While the rise in meat-free diets was never quite as dramatic here as it was elsewhere, it was still noticeable, with the UAE’s per capita meat consumption reaching its lowest point between 2010 and 2017. Since then, interest seems to have cooled, with local Google searches for ‘vegan’ declining in recent years and ‘Veganuary’ searches steadily falling since 2020.
However, much like we explored in our blog on the rise and rebrand of veganism in the UK, the plant-based trend hasn’t disappeared entirely, it has simply taken on a new shape. One of the biggest shifts in recent years is the move away from the word ‘vegan’ on menus and packaging, replaced instead by more accessible, flavour-first language. Menu psychology has shown that the words used to describe a dish can have a real impact on sales, and for many diners, ‘vegan’ still carries associations of blandness or restriction.
This shift is happening at the same time as more vegans and vegetarians move away from strict labels and embrace a way of eating that feels more conscious yet flexible. In fact, research shows that flexitarian is the fastest-growing diet demographic, accounting for around 50% of plant-based consumers and 41% of overall GCC consumers.
Behind those figures is a growing mix of vegans and vegetarians who are becoming more open to occasionally eating animal-based products, alongside meat eaters looking to cut back for health or environmental reasons. This gives F&B brands and restaurants in Dubai a major opportunity to appeal to this growing middle ground.

The Best Vegetarian-Friendly Restaurants in Dubai
All it takes is a quick scroll through Deliveroo, and you’ll see just how many choices there are when it comes to dining in the city. No matter what cuisine you’re craving, there’s more than likely a restaurant in Dubai serving it. The only trouble diners sometimes run into is finding an eatery that caters to everyone’s dietary needs at once.
If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, you’ll know the disappointment of showing up to a restaurant to find that the only thing you can eat is a side salad. Then comes the awkward exchange with the waiter, where you insist it’s fine because you do not want to make a fuss, before sitting there with your bowl of lightly dressed leaves while everyone else tucks into a proper meal.
At Horse & Hound, you’ll experience the exact opposite, with so many veggie options on the menu, you won’t know what to choose. Located within Al Habtoor Polo Resort, this British gastro-pub-inspired eatery serves an array of meat-free comfort foods, such as the hearty Impossible Shepherd’s Pie, loaded nachos, and a flavourful Cauliflower Steak served with punchy chimichurri sauce and triple-cooked spuds.

Now spanning three locations across the city, including its newest branch in the buzzing JBR, CupBop is another go-to crowd-pleaser. Making Korean BBQ accessible to everyone in your friend group, this no-fuss concept has plenty of plant-based favourites, including the Veggie Bop with grilled Korean-style veg, the Doochi Bop with perfectly crispy tofu, and the Noodle Bop with classic sweet potato noodles.
For something extra on the side, make sure to try the K-Dawg for the ultimate cheese pull, before sealing the deal with the iconic Samanco fish-shaped ice cream (rest assured, no fish were harmed in the making of this sweet treat).
Pro tip: If you’re ever stuck trying to find vegan or vegetarian food in Dubai, you can’t go wrong with some authentic Indian cuisine. Home to the highest share of meat-free eaters, India has truly mastered the art of making plant-based dishes delicious, flavour-packed, and anything but boring. Thankfully, the UAE is home to its fair share of expats, so you’re never far from a comforting lentil dal, creamy palak paneer, or spicy vegetable biryani.
Sorry, got a bit lost in the sauce there. Anyway, one of the best Indian restaurants in Dubai, hands down, is Kinara by Vikas Khanna at JA Lake View Hotel. Led by Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna, the menu transforms the humble ingredients and time-honoured recipes of his homeland into something refined and innovative, yet comfortingly familiar. There truly is so much for meat-free diners to choose from here, but if we had to narrow it down, the Shakarkandi chaat of sandalwood-smoked sweet potato, spicy Paneer Masala, and signature Black Dal are certainly worth a try.

Another great veggie option within the JA Resorts & Hotels portfolio is the trendy Il Motto Pizzeria at JA Ocean View Hotel. Plant-based diners are in for a mouthwatering experience, and in our expert opinion, the ideal three-course meal should go something like this: cheesy potato croquettes to start, followed by truffle pizza or spinach and ricotta ravioli for the main, then finished on a high with the velvety tiramisu. The restaurant is just as versatile as its menu too, making it a great fit for family gatherings, casual date nights, and lively Saturday brunches.
What’s the Secret Ingredient?
At the end of the day, trends will come and go, but catering to different tastes will always be important. For F&B brands and restaurants in Dubai looking to truly stand out, the answer isn’t always dry ice and caviar. Sometimes it’s going back to the basics, offering more variety, and giving humble plant-based ingredients another shot.
