Katch Up on the Biggest Social Media Trends in 2026

Alexandra Franks

This year is all about posting with purpose, giving every piece of content a real reason to exist, and having a story to tell

Chasing trends on social media is kind of like running on a treadmill that keeps getting faster. By the time you notice a trend forming, brief the creative department, produce the video, and hit post, the buzz has already died down, and you look late to the party. For brands with layers of approval, it’s almost impossible to keep pace, especially when a trend’s peak virality only lasts a few days.

Chasing the latest fads isn’t a strategy we’d recommend to our social media clients anyway. Our general rule of thumb is, if a video concept doesn’t align with your brand or serve a real objective beyond visibility, it’s not worth chasing. A feed that jumps from trend to trend only ends up confusing its audience, losing any sense of clear narrative or consistent personality.

There are, however, a few overarching trends that certainly aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, they only seem to be growing stronger with time. These are the trends worth integrating into your social media strategy.

Social Media as a Primary Search Engine

When searching for restaurants and activities in Dubai, 38% of people turn to social media over traditional search platforms like Google, and the figures are similar for product recommendations, with 30% heading straight to the likes of Instagram or TikTok. This trend in consumer behaviour has given rise to something known as Social SEO. Video transcripts, captions, alt text, and hashtags all need to be packed with keywords now, just like traditional website SEO, in order to capture high-intent traffic.

Social SEO should not be confused with the social algorithm, though. The algorithm uses keywords in your content to show your posts to your target audience as they passively scroll through their feed. Social SEO puts your brand in front of the people actively searching for content or products like yours, forming connections in the exact moment they want to hear from such brands, resulting in much higher curiosity and engagement.

Frictionless Social Commerce

Social commerce is the buying and selling of products directly within a social network. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok have all rolled out digital storefronts, so people can now discover and buy products without ever leaving the host app. This effectively removes any point of friction where the consumer is likely to drop off.

The user discovers the product through a shoppable post in their feed, an influencer partnership, an ad, or the discovery page. They click through to the brand profile to learn more, read comments, watch reviews in the brand’s tagged section, or send a DM with questions. From there, moving from consideration to purchase, they can buy the product through an in-app checkout system, without ever leaving the app.

The Missed Opportunity That is Arabic Content

This one isn’t a trend per se, it’s always been there, but more brands are starting to realise its importance. Global brands that simply translate their English campaigns fail to resonate with local audiences in the UAE, because people are quick to scroll and reach is heavily impacted. The brands that understand local nuances and cultural wit are connecting far more deeply with the country’s significant population of Arabic-speaking expats and Emiratis.

Brands that invest in transcreation campaigns, built around UAE customs, local humour, and regional dialects, have a serious edge. Even today, competitors are largely ignoring these audiences, which means lower competition and considerably higher engagement rates for anyone willing to show up properly, making it one of the lowest hanging fruits in the UAE’s online world right now. Working with a social media agency in Dubai that has an in-house Arabic content team makes reaching and resonating with Arab audiences much easier.

Building Loyalty Through Authenticity

Another trend that’s been building for a while, but is only going to grow more critical, is the preference for authenticity over polished campaigns. This one is such a big deal, we wrote a whole blog dedicated to the topic. Authentic, behind-the-scenes content from founders and team members continues to outperform polished brand content in terms of organic reach and comments.

Its success stems from the fact that consumers want to see the humans behind the brand. Psychologically, we’re drawn to stories and content that doesn’t shy away from human imperfection, the flaws, vulnerabilities, and unscripted real-life moments that make it real. Such content feels relatable and genuine, so consumers are more likely to trust the brand behind it, leading to loyalty and long-term brand advocacy.

The End of Vanity Metrics

We’re incredibly relieved this one is finally entering mainstream thinking. We’ve always explained to our clients that follower count on its own means very little. What actually matters is engagement rate, audience demographics, and purchasing power.

Followers can be bought but an engaged community can only be earned. A high follower count paired with low engagement often does more harm than good, signalling to algorithms and audiences alike that something’s not adding up. We encourage our clients to work with microinfluencers who have built trust and real rapport among their audience, because when the goal is conversion, these are the people with the influence to actually drive it.

The Rise of User-Generated Content

That transitions us quite nicely into the importance of user-generated content, or UGC. Dubai, just like almost everywhere nowadays, is a review-driven market, where a customer posting their own experience is far more likely to drive conversions than a brand ad. Seeing real customers share their honest opinions makes a brand feel instantly more trustworthy.

3 out of 5 consumers will hesitate to buy a product that doesn’t have any reviews, no matter how well the brand markets itself. For new brands looking to build trust online, encouraging, incentivising, and reposting UGC is one of the most effective ways to build the third-party credibility that’s currently lacking. It also offers the brand a steady stream of authentic content they didn't have to produce themselves.

Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thin

Of course, none of this means you need to tackle every single one of these long-standing trends at once. They’re all worth incorporating into your strategy over time, but executing one properly is better than executing five half-heartedly. The same goes for the platforms you choose to show up on.

One of the most frequent questions we get asked is whether a brand should be on TikTok. To see real growth on TikTok, you realistically need to be posting daily, since the algorithm still prioritises recency over relevancy. If you can’t meet that demand with quality content that satisfies your social media objectives, it’s better to stick to the platforms where you can create real impact.

How Can Katch Help

With an in-house social media and content creation team, we build and execute social media strategies across every major platform. We do so with intention, analysing audience insights to pinpoint exactly where a brand’s audience is most engaged, rather than spreading effort across every channel. Then, we make sure every video, story, or carousel we publish on those platforms communicates a clear message, while also feeding into the same overarching brand narrative.

Just as an example, for our client Shaikh Al Shawarma, our objective was to show up authentically, but in an elevated way. Across three shoots, we captured all the content the brand needed to post with consistency and confidence across Instagram and Facebook, delivering rich product visuals with enough personality to keep audiences hungry for more. Every asset was planned to work in multiple ways across multiple platforms, generating months of content from only 3 days of production.

This is the value of working with an experienced social media agency. Planning content months in advance means every post is backed by intention right from the start, rather than pulled together to fill a gap in the calendar. That intention and forward planning is where lasting impact is created, because audiences can tell the difference between a brand with a plan and one just winging it day by day.

Consistency Over Quantity

Social media is a powerful tool for discovery and even conversion, if it’s properly understood and supported by a strategy. Authentic storytelling, community engagement, and emotional resonance will do more for your brand than any fleeting trend ever can. Simply understand what your audience responds to and keep showing up consistently with exactly that is key to achieving long-term growth and loyalty among your followers.
